I learned about Confucius through my parents repeatedly showing me historical videos of his influence in China. His teachings of piety, loyalty, and etiquette were well respected to the extent that even the emperor would abide to them. He affirmed the need of a virtuous leader with moral integrity who will shift the country towards good.
"If I am walking with two other men, each of them will serve as my teacher. I will pick out the good points of the one and imitate them, and the bad points of the other and correct them in myself."

Yes, I definitely agree that Confucius was a great philosopher! I also grew up learning a lot morals directed by his teachings. One of his more controversial pieces of advice, I think, is "Have no friends not equal to yourself." What do you think?
ReplyDeleteEven though I didn't grow up with Confucius' teachings, I have definitely heard them in classes. He was indeed a great philosopher who made a strong impact on his people and his legacy still lives on! So much of what he has said applies to the way we interact with one another now and his values of morality and respect are universal! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteConfucius was most certainly very influential. In my household, my parents often say Chinese idioms of the fortune cookie variety and I'll ask them what it means and who it's from and they'll tell me that it's from Confucius.
